Obituary of Dr. George W. Arthur Jr.

Dr. George W. Arthur Jr. of North Billerica passed away peacefully on July 24, 2020. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Virginia “Ginger” Arthur. Son of the late George W. Arthur Sr. and Janet Isabel Innes, he was born May 13, 1937 in Lawrence. George was a graduate of Vermont Academy in 1956, Tufts University in 1960 and a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1964. He served in the United States Marine Corps until 1966. He practiced dentistry in North Reading, then joined Harvard Vanguard in Boston and Chelmsford where he was Chief of Dentistry until he retired at age 75. An avid sportsman, “Doc” loved biking, hiking, sailing around Lake Winnipesaukee and skiing. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for many years and especially enjoyed skiing in Europe, his favorite place to ski where he loved the ‘ambiance' of Zermatt, Switzerland. In addition to his wife Ginger, he is survived by his children and their families: Father of Scott Arthur and his wife Sue of Methuen and step-grandfather to Scott’s stepdaughter Jessica. Grandfather of Joey Arthur of Hudson NH and Scotty Arthur and his wife Mariah and her children, Isaiah and Ysabel and great-grandfather of Alexander Joseph Arthur, of Manchester, NH. Father of Jay Arthur and his wife Priscilla of Tewksbury and grandfather of Joshua of Connecticut. Father of Kelly Trumble of Hudson. Father of Jeff Arthur and his wife Laura and grandfather of Andrew and Meghan of North Billerica. Father of Eric Arthur and his wife Stacey and her daughter Emiley and grandfather of Katelyn of Millbury. Step-father of Therese Lyons and her husband Patrick, grandfather “Papa” to Monet, Richard, Joseph, Elise and Monique Lyons of Bedford. Step-father of Eddie Franks, his wife Nancy and her children Tyler and Brooke of Billerica. He is also survived by his brother Dr. John Arthur and his wife Helga of Naples, FL and is the uncle of Lisa of Denver, CO and Christina and her children Chloe and Carli of Naples, FL. Brother-in-law of Janet Walsh of Bedford. In addition to all his accomplishments, George was most proud of how all his children and grandchildren became successful in their own endeavors. He is very grateful that all the children are healthy. Please omit flowers. Always a leader, George was a very kind and compassionate gentleman. George’s cremains will be distributed over the Atlantic Ocean at a later date, privately, per his request, to commemorate his 30 years of sailing where he enjoyed many days of relaxation and tranquility. “May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face.
