When we worked together in Bedford, Dorothy and I didn’t agree on much, firebrand radical that I was and political conservative that she was, except that we liked each other. We enjoyed chatting and joking around together. After I left the Bedford Free Public Library in 1980, she and I continued our friendship in person and, as she got older, by exchanging holiday cards. She always mentioned her rejuvenating trips to the Cape with Karen, but I had no idea that she was a tennis fan! Wish I’d known that, since I grew up in a tennis family and my mother was also a huge Federer fan. It would have been fun to discuss something we totally agreed about! I will miss exchanging holiday cards with her this season.
