Obituary of Leona M. Voss

On April 17th, 2020, a wonderful and beloved angel on earth was invited to hold the hand of God in Heaven. On this day, we celebrate the life of Leona (“Dolly”) Mary Voss. Dolly touched so many during her time on earth. She was born and raised in Danbury, Connecticut, youngest daughter of the late George and Leona Leonoff and sister of Barbara. She married Jay Voss in 1968 (1968-1977), and together they had Brant and Scott, her two loving sons. She later shared important relationships with Charles (“Chip”) Light and Robert Matthews. In her early years, she was an inspirational math teacher, a skill her boys owe to their early success in school. As a working mother, Dolly moved into real estate where she sold both residential properties for William Raveis and ReMax and later moved into property management at Westage Towers in White Plains, New York. She was artful at providing for her family while at the same time being present for her boys, attending theater and sporting events. She later moved to Key West, where she was a mortgage broker. She loved Key West and if asked if there was one thing you could do every day for the rest of her life it would be to sit poolside at a cabana bar with a margarita in-hand and the Kentucky Derby on the TV. Her favorite artist was Barbra Streisand and Streisand’s Broadway version of “Send in the Clowns” touched her emotionally. Her Legacy is best defined by her two sons and their families, Brant (Karen) and Scott (Carolina), who loved and cared for her dearly, together with her five beautiful grandchildren, Marcus, Sophia, Andrew, Skyler, and Chloe, to whom she has gifted a part of her angelic soul. We are blessed that she can now look down on us all from her peaceful garden. We take comfort that she will protect us as an angel in Heaven as she did as an angel on earth. Mom/Grandma/Dolly, we will hold your beauty and grace in our hearts for eternity. May you have peace in the Garden of Heaven surrounded by the Fields of Gold, or perhaps more simply at your poolside cabana in the clouds on Derby Sunday. To this we will toast you for the rest of our lives with a spirited “And they’re off!”.
